Climbing skin is the most important part of the equipment and also a symbol of ski mountaineering. It is glued to the skid before the ascent, they are peeled off and put into a backpack for the descent. The rising layer consists of mohair, nylon or a mixture of both materials. Mohair has an excellent slip and serves even in deep frosts, but it has a shorter lifespan. Nylon has a great climb and worse slip, but a long life.
